Man stabbed in downtown Penticton dies from injuries

A 61-year-old man stabbed while sitting in his vehicle in downtown Penticton has died from his injuries.

According to a Penticton RCMP media release issued today, Dec. 22, police are now investigating the incident as a homicide.

The stabbing took place just after 5 p.m. on Dec. 17 in the 300 block of Martin Street.

Police said the victim was sitting in his vehicle when a man approached, stabbed him multiple times and then fled on foot. It was thought that the victim would survive but his condition changed in the days after the stabbing and he died of his injuries.

"The family of the victim has been connected with RCMP Victim Services and is being supported through this tragic event," Penticton RCMP const. Dayne Lyons said in a media release. "The investigation has made significant progress in the days since the initial incident. We are confident to say that the public is not at risk as our investigation continues."

Police say the incident took place on a busy street and is appealing to anyone who might have seen anything, including vehicles driving through the area with dash cameras, to contact the Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300.
