September 07, 2021 - 3:21 PM

A man in his 60s was maced during an attempted home invasion in Kelowna yesterday and investigators are looking for tips.

A man dressed as a utilities worked knocked on the door of a home in the 200 block of Riverside Avenue in Kelowna at around 11 a.m. yesterday, Sept. 6, according to an RCMP media release.

One of the occupants was convinced to step outside with the suspect and was sprayed with mace.

The man, who was in his 60s, ran back inside the home and the suspect took off when he couldn’t get inside.

“This was a very frightening incident for the occupants of the home who were simply enjoying a quiet Labour Day morning,” Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy said in the release.

RCMP describe the suspect a heavy set man about 5’10” tall. He was wearing a grey shirt, a high visibility vest, yellow hard hat, blue non-medical mask, blue gloves and jeans.

Investigators are asking for nearby residents to check their home security video systems and dash cams to see if they have any images of the suspect.

If you witnessed this incident, have any video or have information that may help RCMP identify and locate the suspect, contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or go online here.
