A man in his 70s died following a three-vehicle crash on Highway 1 in Salmon Arm last night.

According to an RCMP media release, the incident took place at approximately 7:50 p.m. yesterday, Feb. 4, on Highway 1 near 20 Avenue NE in Salmon Arm.

Police report a Ford F-350 pickup truck travelling eastbound crossed the centre line of the highway and collided with the trailer of a transport truck travelling westbound. The truck then collided with a second transport truck. Police used dash cam footage to understand what took place.

The driver of the pickup, a man from the Salmon Arm area, had to be extricated from the vehicle and was rushed to hospital where he later died. The pickup's passenger, also a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

Neither driver of the transport trucks was injured in the incident.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Anyone with information useful to the investigation is asked to contact Salmon Arm RCMP at 250-832-6044.
