Man in hospital, another in custody following serious assault in Penticton

Penticton RCMP continue to look for witnesses to two assaults that took place at the beach on Lakeshore Drive late Friday night, May 3, 2019.

PENTICTON - Penticton RCMP continue to investigate a serious assault last week that put the victim in hospital.

Police attended the waterfront of Okanagan Lake on Lakeshore Drive on May 3 around 11:30 p.m. after a complaint of an altercation and found a man in his late 20s unconscious and suffering from a head injury.

The man was transported to Penticton Regional Hospital, and later transferred to Kelowna General for further treatment.

Police said the man was at a small party on the public beach with a number of other people when the accused, 21-year-old Thomas Kruger-Allen, allegedly assaulted someone else at the party.

The victim, along with another man, attempted to intervene when they were assaulted.

Kruger-Allen, who remains in custody, faces charges of aggravated assault, sexual assault and two counts of common assault.

“This is an unfortunate event that has impacted many lives. The Penticton RCMP are asking anyone who might have witnessed the altercations and have not spoken to the police, to contact us at:250-492-4300,” Staff Sgt. Bob Vatamaniuck said in a press release issued today, May 6.
