A man and woman were shot by police outside of Keremeos this morning and the man did not survive.

It was 7:45 a.m. on Sept. 13 when officers with the RCMP Southeast District Emergency Response Team attempted to arrest the couple for outstanding warrants, according to a media release.

The incident occurred near the 4100 block of Highway 3 near Keremeos.

As officers were trying to enforce the warrants the man was shot by police after he allegedly presented a weapon.

The man died on site and the woman was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

The RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit had to be called in to secure the area.

Highway 3 was closed in both directions for several hours this morning.
