A Kamloops filmmaker will be premiering his latest project next week in his hometown.
Ken Hegan is the writer and director behind Outrunners – an action comedy about Emily and Todd, who are racing to save Emily’s mom as a deadly plague breaks out while they’re starring on a reality TV show. The movie was written and filmed in Kamloops in 2020.
“It’s like The Hunger Games meets The Truman Show on Game Night,” according to a media release from the Thompson-Nicola Film Commissioner. “Watch Kamloops come to life in the trailer.”
It was the first movie to shut down the streets of Kamloops since Power Rangers in 2017.
“When the pandemic struck in 2020, Hegan moved back to Kamloops (he’s a Norkam grad who hails from Brocklehurst) where he wrote the Outrunners script, turning the wildest news stories into a race to save a mother’s life,” the release says.
The world premier for Outrunners is happening at the Kamloops Film Festival during the opening night gala on March 2. Adult tickets cost $12 through this link.
"Definitely the first Canadian film ever to put snipers on a hotel roof and fire down into a crowd of protesters."
