A man remains in custody after he allegedly stabbed a woman near a Kelowna mall earlier this month.

Luc Joseph Jacques Borduas, born in 1964, is facing three criminal charges for the assault that left a woman with stab wounds at the Orchard Park Mall bus loop on June 14.

He remains in custody with a court date scheduled for July 17, according to online court records.

In a June 15 news release, Kelowna RCMP said a man was arrested at the scene when bystanders held him until police arrived. A patrolling officer was flagged down shortly after two bystanders detained the assailant.

“The bystanders had witnessed the attack and quickly jumped into action, disarming the male and pulling him away from the victim," the release read.

Police didn't say much about what led to the assault, but did say the victim and the assailant know each other.

“This was a disturbing and violent attack on an individual going about her daily activity,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Const. Mike Della-Paolera said in the release.

Borduas, who has no prior convictions in BC, is facing charges for aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The victim was expected to make a full recovery after she was treated at the scene then transported to hospital.
