Man beaten, robbed at ATM after withdrawal

KAMLOOPS - Police have made an arrest and charged a Kamloops man after an afternoon robbery at an automated bank teller Monday.

The victim was using the CIBC bank machine at 304 Victoria Street around 1:45 p.m. Jan. 1. The 35-year-old man said he was punched in the face and had "a large amount of cash" stolen from him. Two suspects left the bank but police found them two blocks away within 10 minutes, says Kamloops RCMP Sgt. Edward Preto.

The victim was treated for injuries.

George Nicholas Young, born in 1980, of Kamloops was held in custody after a bail hearing today on several charges, including robbery and assault.
