Man assaults random strangers with metal bar in downtown Kelowna

KELOWNA - Police arrested a man who allegedly assaulted several bystanders in downtown Kelowna with a metal bar.

This morning, Aug. 2, at about 8:47 a.m. Kelowna RCMP received several reports of a male that seemed to be randomly attacking strangers in the 300 block of Bernard Avenue in the downtown core.

One man was taken into custody, after he allegedly assaulted five strangers with a metal bar. A media release says the man “continued to exhibit assaultive behaviour against the arresting officer” while in handcuffs, and caused some property damage inside the police vehicle.

None of the victims received any life-threatening injuries.

The man appeared to be under the influence of drugs, and he was taken to the Kelowna General Hospital for medical assistance.

He remains in police custody, and will be brought before a judge to face several potential charges.
