KELOWNA – A cab driver was assaulted and robbed in downtown Kelowna last week and police have released a surveillance photo of the suspect.

The suspect allegedly assaulted and threatened the cab driver with what appeared to be used needles, according to an RCMP release. Police say the cab driver sustained non life-threatening injuries from the attack.

The suspect racked up a $45 cab fare after he was picked up in the 700 block of Harvey Avenue, taken to Rutland and then driven back to the downtown core.

RCMP responded to the area of Lawrence Avenue and Richter Street on March 27 at 8:33 p.m., but the suspect had already fled the scene on foot, police say.

The suspect is described as a Native man, slim build, approximately 5'7" tall, wearing a hooded beige jacket, jeans and a blue baseball cap.

Anyone able to identify the robbery suspect or anyone with any information is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300. Remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net or by texting your tip to CRIMES (274637) ktown.
