Man arrested after pepper spraying Rayleigh homeowner, stealing truck

KAMLOOPS - One suspect is in custody after he allegedly stole a pickup truck before pepper spraying a home owner in Rayleigh today, Jan. 6.

Cpl. Cheryl Bush, a spokesperson for Kamloops RCMP, says police received a report around 7 a.m. about a Dodge pickup truck stolen from a location on Royal Avenue overnight.

Shortly after receiving that report, the suspect drove the stolen truck to a home on Furiak Road in Rayleigh where the homeowner caught him breaking into a detached garage on the property. During the incident, the suspect pepper sprayed the homeowner before fleeing the scene in the grey Dodge.

Police located the stolen vehicle around 10 a.m. by Willow Street and Cottonwood Avenue where police took two men into custody. Kamloops RCMP continues to investigate the incident, but will be recommending several charges against one of the male suspects who Bush says has a history of similar types of offences on his criminal record.
