A Lake Country driver got hit with bear spray after following a vehicle that was allegedly driving erratically.

The incident happened at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, July 4, according to an RCMP media release. The suspect vehicle stopped a Reiswig Road, a man got out, ran over and sprayed what was believed to be bear mace into the open passenger window of the vehicle that had been following him.

The suspect vehicle fled the scene but RCMP were able to arrest a 23-year-old Lake Country man for assault. He has since been released pending a court appearance. Police are still looking for a second man believed to be involved.

“This case highlights the importance of calling police if you think there’s a danger to your community,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy said in the release. “You never know who you’re dealing with or the potential danger you may face.”

Anyone with any information can contact the Lake Country RCMP at 250-766-2288 or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or go online at www.crimestoppers.net.
