RCMP have a suspect in custody after a man walked into Rossland's city hall with a bow and arrow this morning, pushed his way past staff and locked himself inside an office.

Officers responded to the incident after receiving reports that a man with a bow and arrow had entered Rossland city hall just before 7 a.m. today, Jan. 26, prior to staff opening the doors to the public, according to an RCMP media release.

The suspect entered through a back door and pushed his way past city staff. The man refused to leave and locked himself in an office.

Officers used crisis de-escalation tactics and the suspect, a 24-year-old Rossland man, was taken into police custody without further incident and remains in police custody at this time.

Although the suspect was armed with what is being considered a weapon, no one was injured during the incident, RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich said in the release.

RCMP continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the event.

Anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to the police, is asked to contact the Trail and Greater District RCMP Detachment at 250-364-2566.
