Man allegedly uses bear spray to rob convenience store in Kelowna

Police officers are investigating after a convenience store was allegedly robbed this morning by a man wielding bear spray.

Just after 12:15 a.m., the Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of a robbery with a weapon at a convenience store in the 2000 block of Springfield Road, April 30.

A man allegedly entered the business and assaulted an employee and customer inside the store, by deploying what police officers believe to be bear spray. The man then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of store merchandise, according to the RCMP's press release.

Both the employee and the customer suffered minor injuries in the assault and were treated at scene by Emergency Health Services, according to the RCMP.

The suspect is described as Caucasian, with a slim build, standing approximately six-foot-two inches tall, with short brown hair. He was wearing a black baseball cap, a light grey plaid button up shirt, jeans, black shoes and was carrying a black duffle bag.

Investigators remained on scene at the business throughout the early morning to collect evidence and to canvass the area for video surveillance, according to the news release.

Anyone with information about the robbery or the identity of the suspects is encouraged to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.
