Major structure fire deemed suspicious in Kelowna

Kelowna firefighters remain on scene after responding to a major structure fire early this morning.

Multiple calls came in around 3:30 a.m. today, June 17, about a structure fire in the area of Pandosy Street and Lake Avenue, according to a release from the Kelowna Fire Department.

The location of the fire was a single family home in 1900 block of McDougall Street.

A large, single family residence was reported to be fully involved with fire by the first arriving officer, and there were exposures on both sides of the structure.

“Fire crews were able to protect the exposed residences on both sides of the fire and used multiple master streams to suppress the fire,” the release says.

The Kelowna Fire Department’s response included five engines, two ladder trucks, a rescue truck, safety unit, incident command unit, 26 fire personnel and the deputy chief.

Also assisting on scene were members of the RCMP, B.C. Ambulance Service, Fortis, City of Kelowna Parks, Salvation Army, and municipal road crews.

There were no injuries reported.

The fire is deemed suspicious and is under the investigation of the Kelowna Fire Department.

Crews remain on scene and the public to stay away while they finish their work.
