Curtis Sagmoen charged with another probation breach

Curtis Sagmoen leaves the Vernon court house Sept. 9, 2019.

A North Okanagan man who has multiple convictions for violence against sex workers has been charged with breaching his probation order by possessing a cell phone.

Curtis Wayne Sagmoen is scheduled to appear in court next week for the alleged breach that took place in Salmon Arm on Nov. 18.

Sagmoen's name became well known in 2017 after the body of 18-year-old Traci Genereaux was found at his parent's rural Salmon River Road property. No one has ever been charged in relation to Genereaux's death and police haven't said how she died.

Sagmoen is currently under a strict probation order which prevents him from doing a multitude of things, including possessing a cell phone to contact sex workers.

Last December, the 44-year-old was convicted for contacting a sex worker and possessing a cell phone and drugs – all violations of his probation order.

In August, he spent four days behind bars after police found an old shotgun cartridge in his glovebox – another breach of his probation order.

In 2017, he was taken into custody and later convicted of violence towards sex workers for two incidents which happened that year.

In one instance, he ambushed and pointed a firearm at a sex worker he had called to the large rural property one night.

Not long afterwards, he drove a quad bike at high speed into another sex worker he'd called to the property. She testified she thought he "tried to kill her" with the ATV.

In December 2019 he was released from custody on a very strict probation order.

His current probation order was issued in December 2023 for two years.

Vernon RCMP has also made the unusual move to publicly warn sex workers to stay away from Sagmoen's family property on Salmon River Road.

Sagmoen is not currently in custody.
