KELOWNA - Mounties are warning the public mail thefts may be on the rise in the city.
"Although it is difficult to determine what mail may have been stolen, several super boxes and apartment boxes in rural areas, and the downtown core have seen tampering," RCMP Const. Kris Clark stated in a press release. "Mail theft can lead to identify theft and fraud if documents containing personal financial information are stolen."
To prevent mail theft, the Kelowna RCMP recommends being vigilant and reporting suspicious activities around mailboxes, paying attention if expected mail is not received and not allowing mail to build up in the mailbox.
The B.C. RCMP website has more tips on theft prevention and personal safety.
