PENTICTON - It’s never been cheaper to give your lawn a little love this fall.

Water conservation programs for the City of Penticton and the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen have teamed up to offer free compost to help qualified residents and businesses improve the health of their lawn.

Top dressing your lawn with a half-inch layer of compost maximizes the beneficial effects of grass staying greener longer with less watering. This time of year is perfect for top dressing, as you can spread seeds underneath in preparation for spring.

Residents and businesses must register by Nov. 5 for compost. This is what you will need:
• Take a picture of the area to be dressed.
• Measure the area dimensions where the compost will be applied.
• Call 250-490-2500 and provide your name, contact information and dimensions.

You will be contacted to finalize the registration, and pickup will be available in November. On pickup day, residents will check in with the scale attendant at Campbell Mountain Landfill, located five kilometres northeast of Penticton off Reservoir Road.

Multiple trips, professional trucking companies and other haulers are accepted. Please contact 250-490-2500 for commercial options.

Once the compost is in place, send before and after pictures of your lawn after the compost is applied.
