Lottery players in the Thompson, Nicola and Okanagan won more than a quarter of the prizes across the province in 2021.
They purchased 14.3 million winning tickets, which includes 2.8 million free plays and 14 grand prizes worth $500,000 or more, according to a media release from the B.C. Lottery Corporation.
Throughout B.C., there was a record-breaking 102 million tickets that were winners this year, which included online and retail sales.

The record for prizes paid out was also broken at $891 million.
One woman, Christine Lauzon of Burnaby, became the largest single-prize winner in the history of the province when she won $70 million in the Sept. 28 Lotto Max jackpot.
“As 2021 wraps up, we’re celebrating all of our players and so many amazing, life-changing dreams that came true for lottery winners,” Lynda Cavanaugh, with the lottery corporation said in the release.

“It’s thanks to each one of our players that BCLC generates revenue for the Province of B.C., which in turn invests it back into the communities where our players live and work in. It’s a win-win-win, and today we’re celebrating more than 14 million winning tickets sold to Thompson-Nicola and Okanagan players in 2021.”
