Penticton Search and Rescue responded to a call for a lost hiker earlier this week.

The search and rescue unit responded to the Mahoney Lake area where a hiker was reported lost Monday afternoon, March 15, according to a PENSAR media release.

Seventeen members from Penticton and Oliver/Osoyoos search and rescue teams joined up with three RCMP members and two search dogs.

The rescuers found the lost hiker around 5 p.m.

Search and rescue manager Anne Benn said in the release the lost hiker “did all the right things,” remaining calm, moving to an open area and remaining stationary.

The hiker also called police right away, which allowed rescue teams to take advantage of the afternoon daylight hours.

He also wore a bright jacket and had food and water with him.

A search helicopter spotted the man and flew him back to search command for health assessment.
