Long wait times expected at Kelowna Costco this weekend

Locals stood in line at Kelowna’s Costco for up to an hour to do their shopping Saturday morning.

Martin Abbott, who shops at Costco about once a week said some days are better than others.

“Some days usually go by quicker, others go slower,” he said, adding that he was standing in line for roughly an hour Saturday morning.

Others said the lineup Saturday morning was smaller than other times they were shopping at the store. One individual said he had been waiting in line for roughly 45 minutes as he neared the entrance of the store.

A security guard, who couldn’t give his name for comment, said at the Kelowna Costco location Sundays are usually worse than Saturdays.

The lineup has been divided into two sections in the store's parking lot.

A Costco representative was not immediately available for comment.

Eric Li, a UBCO Okanagan association professor who studies human and market trends in emergency situations, said in previous interview with iNFOnews that panic buying in crisis situations is a fairly normal reaction.

Li said when customers motivated by fear for themselves and their loved ones and what they see on social media can create a panic buying frenzy.

It’s not the first time long-line ups have been reported at Kelowna's Costco.
