Former long-serving Kamloops city councillor Pat Wallace died on the weekend at the age of 90.
When she retired in 2018, Wallace had served as a Kamloops city councillor for 11 terms, totalling 31 years in office.
"Pat was well known throughout the city and the region and was role a model and mentor to so many colleagues," a Thompson Nicola Regional District news release read.
She was the first woman to chair the regional district board, where she was known for standing up for what she believed, the regional district said.
The City of Kamloops bestowed her with the Freedom of the City award in 2019, a year after her retirement from politics. The highest municipal award recognized her career not only influencing local policy, but as a prominent figure in regional and B.C. politics.
She was also involved with non-profit organizations like the AIDS Society and the blood donor clinic, according to the City.
"We are saddened to hear of the passing of Pat Wallace, long time City Councillor and recipient of the Freedom of the City Award for her years of service and dedication to our city. Our thoughts are with her loved ones during this time," the City said in a message of condolence to social media.
