Locally-made spirits to get you through the holiday

Shereen Abbas of Okanagan Spirits pours a sample of their signature vodka made from locally sourced fruit.

THOMPSON-OKANAGAN - There’s no faster way to get into the spirit of Christmas than with Christmas spirits, and the Thompson-Okanagan has two award-winning local craft distilleries to help with last minute gifts or to keep guests from noticing that overcooked turkey.

Urban Distilleries in Kelowna’s north end focuses on vodka, gin and whiskey, and they make all of their liquors with locally sourced ingredients. Their products are all natural, gluten-free, and have no artificial additives.

They sell small bottles of vodka, gin and espresso vodka that are perfect for stocking stuffers and also carry a wide assortment of bar and whiskey accessories. Urban Distillers are also the producer of Mary Jane's® Premium Hemp Gin.

Gift cards are available in any denomination and they have different gift basket options available for order here.

Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery was awarded the status of World Class Distillery and Distillery of the Year for 2013 by the World Spirits organization in Austria. Their stores in Vernon and Kelowna sell gift baskets, mini bottles of gin, whiskey, vodka and liqueurs as well as a variety of bar accessories.

They are also the only producers of genuine Okanagan absinthe and all their alcohol is made from local fruit and berries. For those in need of an 11th hour gift they will be open until 3 p.m. Christmas Eve.

Maple Leaf Spirits is the first licensed distillery in the South Okanagan and is recognized for award winning artesan spirits from 100 per cent B.C. fruit and grapes.

Aside from local wine options, including honey wine from Honeymoon Meadery in Vernon or Meadow Vista Honey Wines in Kelowna, you also have your pick of craft beer makers in the region, including Red Collar Brewing and The Noble Pig in Kamloops.
