Beginning Tuesday, May 20, at 7 a.m. Lakeshore Road from Lexington to Cook roads will be closed to motorists to accommodate the utility and bridge replacement as part of the $11-million Lakeshore Road upgrades project.

Infrastructure improvements will include:
-  improved traffic flow and safety
-  upgrades to sanitary trunk, stormwater and water mains
-  multi-use pathway and commuter bike lanes
-  roundabout at Lexington Drive
-  improved Greenway trail-head access
-  new sidewalks, streetscaping & landscaping
-  underground shallow utilities on east side of road, except electrical
-  conduit for future underground of electrical

Primary detour routes via Lexington and Cook roads will be clearly marked and traffic safety personnel will be on site directing traffic. Access to businesses and residences is a priority and will be maintained.

Transit stops on Lakeshore Rd north of Lequime and south of Cook roads will be closed. Temporary bus stops will be in place at Cook and Lakeshore Road, Gordon Drive and Cook Road and Gordon Drive and Lexington Drive. The #1 Lakeshore transit route will be detoured in and out of Mission Recreation Transit Exchange via Gordon Drive and Cook Road to and from Lakeshore Road. Improvements will include upgrades to bus stops located within the project area. Kelowna transit routes and schedules can be viewed at www.bctransit.com/regions/kel.

The Mission Creek Greenway will be closed at Lakeshore Road. Trail turn-arounds will be in place for access from Gordon Drive. When the bridge replacement and road widening is complete, an underpass will provide safe access to the popular regional Greenway recreational trail.

The project was contracted to Copcan Contracting Ltd; Urban Systems is the contract administrator. Completion is scheduled for November.
