Kentucky police chief, girlfriend indicted on drug charges

LYNCH, Ky. - A police chief in southeastern Kentucky has been indicted on federal drug and weapons charges.

Media outlets report Lynch Police Chief Jackie Stewart and his girlfriend, Rettie Morris, were arrested Friday.

The indictment in federal court in London accuses Stewart and Morris of conspiring to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine and Suboxone, and with illegally disposing of or selling a gun.

Lynch is in Harlan County, about 155 miles southeast of Lexington. The town has about 730 residents.

Lynch Mayor John Adams says the city is seeking the help of the Benham and Cumberland police departments in the interim.
