KELOWNA - The Y is holding its largest fundraiser, YMCA Cycle for Strong Kids, this Sunday outside the H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre and are inviting the community to drop by for the fun. Cycle teams are pre-registered but there will be activities throughout the day for everyone to take part in.

Event organizers are anticipating one of the best years yet.

“We have a record number of supporters this year and a ton of fun activities planned,” says Rhonda Zakala, GM of Fund Development at the YMCA of Okanagan. “Teams will be cycling on stationary bikes in 45 minute time slots beginning at 8 a.m. and new this year is a 3.5 km family bike ride along the Mission Greenway starting at 10:30 a.m. Drop by to cheer on your community members and enjoy the kids zone, face painting, a barbeque by donation beginning at 10:30 a.m., silent auction and more.”

“Olympian medalist, Kelsey Serwa is also supporting the cause and will be available for autographs at 9 a.m.”

Funds raised through YMCA Cycle for Strong Kids will make it possible for the YMCA of Okanagan to offer programs that positively impact the lives of local, at-risk children, and those who otherwise can’t afford to participate.

Currently one in five children across the YMCA of Okanagan are in need of YMCA donor funding in order to access programs and resources, and in YMCA Child Care this number is one in three. With a high number of children in the Central Okanagan living in low-income households, it is important that residents and businesses provide support to ensure the health and vitality of our community into the future.

YMCA Cycle for Strong Kids runs from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. this Sunday, May 29, outside the H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre. Come cheer on your community and help the Y create opportunities for kids to reach their full potential. If you cannot make it to the event but want to make a difference, visit ymcaokanagan.ca to donate. Every little bit helps.
