Christy Lovig is once again coaching the Sun Run InTraining Program, starting Tuesday, January 24th, 2017, from 6-7:30 PM at the Kinsmen Fieldhouse (Mission Sports Fields – directly behind H20 on Lexington and Gordon).

SportMedBC, in partnership with The Vancouver Sun, coordinates the InTraining clinics at over 65 locations throughout the province.  The aim of the clinics is to motivate and assist new runners and walkers to take part in the Vancouver Sun Run on Sunday, April 23rd, 2017, through participation in a 13-week graduated training program.  The clinic typically attracts 70+ participants in Kelowna, which provides a great training environment, full of support and camaraderie as you work towards your goal of completing the Sun Run.

This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who would like to learn to run and participate in the Vancouver Sun Run (10km/6 miles), whether that be for health reasons, for the joy of the sport or simply to check something off your bucket list.  Some important points on the clinic:

The InTraining Program removes the intimidation factor by easing participants into running through a graduated walk/run program (in fact, you’ll be walking more than you run in the earlier weeks of the program).  It’s the program's objective to ensure you reach your goal injury-free while actually enjoying yourself (it’s possible).

There’s also an expanded “Run Stronger” program this year to support those looking to improve upon their 10km time by incorporating various forms of speed and strength training into your program.

Walkers are welcome and there is a specific program geared towards those who aim to walk the Sun Run course.

The cost for the 13 week clinic is $144 + GST, which includes the following:

  • 13 weekly guided sessions;
  • Speakers and information sessions on various aspects of the sport;
  • Technical training shirt;
  • Entry to the Sun Run and race t-shirt;
  • Online training log book;
  • Camaraderie, support, laughs and high fives; and
  • Various treats, partner gift cards, etc.

Register now through the City of Kelowna by phone (250-469-8800) or online, using barcode 151984.
