Kelowna-West MLA Ben Stewart under review by Elections B.C.

Ben Stewart couldn't hold back tears as he announced he was giving up his seat in the legislature for Premier Christy Clark in this 2013 file photo.

KELOWNA - Elections B.C. has confirmed that they are reviewing Kelowna West MLA Ben Stewart’s political contributions.

“Elections BC received a letter late in the day yesterday from MLA Ben Stewart in regards to political contributions to the B.C. Liberal Party,” Rebecca Penz, Elections B.C.’s director of communications said in an email to iNFOnews.ca today, Aug. 2. “We will be reviewing the matter to determine if there are any issues of compliance with the Election Act.”

Other media have reported that Stewart also resigned from the caucus yesterday.

Stewart hasn't made any announcement or offered any explanation to local voters about the situation.

Stewart’s constituency office is closed Fridays during the summer and the B.C. Liberal Caucus office did not return calls.
