The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds by a dominant score of 6-1 on Wednesday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna.

Calvin Thurkauf opened the scoring, putting home two goals in the first period. Rockets led 2-0 after one period.

Tomas Soustal put the Rockets up 3-0 early in the second before Seattle tried to stop the bleeding as they found the back of the net. Their bit of life was short lived though, as Jake Kryski and the Rockets responded 19 seconds later. Rodney Southam put home one more before the period was out. The Rockets led 5-1 after two periods.

The Rockets scoring slowed down in the third but it didn't matter as they shut the Thunderbirds down. Calvin Thurkauf completed his first career hat-trick to top off the big offensive night.

The Penalty kill was 2-for-3 and the power play was 0-for-3.

The games three stars were:

  1. Calvin Thurkauf
  2. Nick Merkley
  3. Tomas Soustal

The Rockets improve to 17-11-1-0 on the season.

The Thunderbirds fall to 15-10-2-1 on the year.

Michael Herringer improves to 14-8-1-0 stopping 21 of 22 shots he faced.

The Rockets are back in action on Friday when they begin their seven game pre-Christmas road trip in Tri-City.

The Rockets next home game is December 27th when they host their neighbouring rivals the Kamloops Blazers.
