KELOWNA - The Kelowna Rockets get a few days rest before taking on the Seattle Thunderbirds in the WHL Western Conference finals.

The Rockets downed the Portland Winterhawks 6-2 on Friday, April 14, to take the best-of-seven semifinal four games to one. Reid Gardiner led the scoring for the Rockets with four goals and two assists.

This will be the fourth consecutive year the Rockets have made it to the Western Conference finals.

The Thunderbirds swept the Everett Silvertips in their semifinal. Seattle is undefeated so far in the playoffs, winning their first round series against the Tri-City Americans in four games.

The first two games of the best-of-seven Western Conference final will be played on the Thunderbirds’ home ice at the  ShoWare Center on Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22, with games three and four at Prospera Place in Kelowna on Tuesday, April 25 and Wednesday, April 26.

Last year, the Thunderbirds knocked the Rockets out of the playoffs in the Western Conference final in just four games. Over the course of the regular season, the Rockets met the Thunderbirds four times, mustering three victories and one loss.
