A scam text message that appears to be from the RCMP has been circulating in Kamloops and the Okanagan recently, and police force is warning people about it.
The unsolicited text messages claim that the RCMP hasn’t been able to deliver court documents and asks the recipient to click a link to reschedule a court date, according to a press release from police.
“The RCMP will never ask for personal information through a text message or email,” Kelowna RCMP Sgt. Laura Pollock said in the release. “Scammers have gone to great lengths to create this message that looks like a legitimate notification, but don’t be fooled and delete the message immediately.”
The text includes has a Canada logo, a Canadian flag and the RCMP logo as part of the deception.
