KELOWNA - This was no joke.

Kelowna RCMP say an unidentified male was robbed of cash from his backpack after an altercation on April Fools' Day.

The robbery happened at around 10 p.m. Sunday, April 1 in the 1900 block of Spall Road in Kelowna, media relations officer Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said in a press release, and resulted in non-life threatening injuries to the victim.

Police say the victim was confronted by a Caucasian male in his 30s, about 5'8" tall, 170 lbs. with light brown hair and a short beard.

After struggling with his victim, police say the man took a small amount of cash and ran away eastbound. He was last seen wearing a brown hat, brown or tan-coloured hoodie, dirty blue jeans, black or green gloves and white sneakers with black shoelaces.

Kelowna RCMP and the dog squad could not locate the man despite an extensive ground search.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and they believe the incident was not random.
