Kelowna RCMP return found cash to rightful owner

KELOWNA – Police have found the rightful owner of a sizeable amount of cash found inside an item donated to a local charity.

RCMP say the item was donated in back in August and that’s when the money was found.

Early this week police issued a media release asking for the public’s help and yesterday, Oct. 3, the owner showed up at the RCMP detachment and claimed his cash — more than $1,000.

Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says in a media release the owner was relieved.

“The Kelowna resident, who wished to remain anonymous, was ecstatic to be returning to the police department to retrieve his lost money,” O’Donaghey says. “He expressed his intentions to reach out to the charitable group in an effort to not only thank them, but in hopes of finding an appropriate way to support their cause.”
