Kelowna police trying to return found cash to rightful owner

KELOWNA - Missing something?

Police are looking for the rightful owner of an undisclosed amount of cash found "concealed inside an item donated to a local charity group" and are stuck trying to return to its rightful unidentified owner.

In a release today, Oct. 2, Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey says the item was donated in August. Employees found the money but realized it likely wasn't meant for donation. They hung onto it, expecting the donor to return looking for it, but when that didn't happen, they handed it over to police.

Around the same time, O'Donaghey says an unknown man asked at the Kelowna detachment about money donated to a charity.

“Police want to speak with that man again,” states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “The rightful owner will be able to properly describe the donated item the money was hidden inside, as well as provide the correct dollar amount and bill denominations.”

The owner or anyone with any information is asked to call the Kelowna RCMP non-emergency line at 250-762-3300 and cite file number 2018-59026.
