Kelowna RCMP nab suspect in SUV stolen out of Revelstoke

KELOWNA - A Revelstoke man was busted while driving a stolen SUV in Kelowna after RCMP were called about a suspected impaired driver.

It all began shortly after 7 a.m. yesterday, Sept. 24 when Revelstoke RCMP got a report that a white 2014 Ford Explorer had been stolen from the 300 block of 6 Street E. in Revelstoke, according to an RCMP news release.

It took until about 2 p.m. for it to be spotted on Richter Street in Kelowna driving erratically. RCMP ran the plates, confirmed it was the stolen truck and tried to pull it over.

At first, the driver refused to stop. Then he pulled into a parking lot near Bertram Street and Bernard Avenue.

The driver was arrested and a male passenger checked out and released.

The driver gave a false name but was identified through fingerprints as 27-year-old Keith McKay of Revelstoke.

He has been charged with a number of crimes, including possession of stolen property over $5,000, obstructing a police officer, driving while prohibited and breach of probation.

He appeared in Kelowna court today, Sept. 25, and remains in custody. Police say more charges are pending.
