Kelowna RCMP catch pedophile after cross-border investigation

A 46-year-old man is set to appear in court in Kelowna after being caught in possession of evidence of child sexual assault.

Patrick Micheal Waldrum has been arrested for possession of child pornography and luring a child following an investigation by Kelowna RCMP’s Integrated Child Exploitation Unit, according to a press release from police.

The child luring charge requires evidence that the offender used telecommunication to contact someone under 18 for the purpose of committing a crime.

Kelowna RCMP investigators worked with international law enforcement partners since Waldrum’s offences spanned several countries.

“In order to combat this borderless online crime, collaborating with several of our international law enforcement partners was key to the success of this investigation,” Sgt. Tim Russell, who is in charge of the Kelowna RCMP Vulnerable Persons Unit said in the release.

“The online sexual exploitation of children continues to be an emerging concern in our society and the Kelowna RCMP continues to adapt its investigative strategies to ensure public safety and that offenders are held accountable.”

Waldrum was arrested in Brooks, Alberta and is set to appear in court in Kelowna on Jan. 3.
