Kelowna RCMP seized drugs and cash during patrols in the Rutland neighbourhood in late December.

Officers observed a suspicious vehicle and individuals in a way that made them suspect they were involved in drug trafficking, according to an RCMP news release issued today, Jan. 9. In noticing this, surveillance on the suspected vehicle began.

After a traffic stop, the driver and passenger were arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance.

The arrest led to a search of the individuals and their vehicle which is when investigators found evidence of drug trafficking as well as grounds to believe the vehicle had a hidden compartment concealing more evidence.

The vehicle was seized and a warrant was obtained to further search it which confirmed the presence of a hidden compartment and additional drug trafficking evidence. Around $6,000 in cash, a kilogram of suspected cocaine, 180 grams of methamphetamine and 180 grams of fentanyl were seized.

The two arrested individuals have been released from custody as the investigation continues.
