Kelowna police blocking road near scene of shooting, homicide

A police vehicle and barricade are blocking the intersection at Rose Road and Pooley Road near the scene of a shooting Aug. 30.

Police have blocked roads in the McCulloch Road area of Kelowna, the scene of a shooting last week that left one man dead.

Roadblock signs backed by unmarked police vehicles have been placed on Rose Road and Pooley Road today, Sept. 2. Six RCMP officers are searching the area with a metal detector.

"This is part of the search for physical evidence related to the shooting on Sunday. There is no concern for the public at this time," Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy said in an emailed statement. "We are not commenting at this time on whether the matter was targeted, but we do not believe there is further threat to the public."

It was initially closed after the Aug. 30 shooting but police are back on scene today, Sept. 2, the day after police announced Cory Allan Patterson died in the gunfire.

Another man, age 34, suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the same shooting. Police believe the shooter then fled the area in a light-coloured passenger vehicle.

RCMP are on in the area where a shooting took place last week.
