KELOWNA – Kelowna RCMP say a woman who may be wanted in Quebec for allegedly setting fire to a medical clinic earlier this month could be in Kelowna, but they are not looking for her.

The Montreal Gazette and several other news outlets reported last week that Jayne Ellen Heideck, 42, is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for five charges, including arson with a disregard for human life, breaking and entering and arson by negligence.

Const. Jesse O’Donaghey says the Kelowna RCMP are aware of the allegations against Heideck but they aren't actively looking for her.

“We’ve been told that a warrant does exist but it’s not extended Canada wide so it's not something we can act on,” he says. “Our system was not showing any warrants issued for the arrest of any individuals by the name provided.”

Heideck is accused of setting fire to the Centre Metropolitian de Chirgurie, a plastic surgery clinic that specializes in gender reassignments, on May 2. The Gazette says Heideck is a former client of the Centre.

O'Donaghey could not say for certain if Heideck is currently in Kelowna, only that "it is possible."
