A new Kelowna Mexican restaurant has temporarily decided to close its doors after a person with COVID-19 entered the establishment.

Cantina Del Centro opened for business on Bernard Avenue in the city's downtown earlier in September, and announced it would be closing its doors for the next two weeks, starting Nov. 27 as there was a "positive case of COVID-19 within our space."

The restaurant did not announce whether it was a customer or employee that tested positive for the virus in the Facebook story, but owners made the decision to close in order to keep customers and staff protected, "so they can enjoy Cantina vibes in the future."

It had a COVID-19 safety plan in place, but even with its best efforts, "some things are just bigger than us," according to the Facebook story.

The restaurant announced it will spend the next two weeks cleaning and sanitizing the space and will reopen Dec. 10.

Masks are currently required in all indoor public establishments in B.C.
