Kelowna man fatally stabbed; suspect in custody

KELOWNA – A Kelowna man was fatally stabbed in Rutland last night and the RCMP have a suspect under arrest.

RCMP say officers were called to the stabbing at about 9:45 p.m., March 11, in the 100-block of Gerstmar Road.

“Officers quickly arrived at the scene to discover an unresponsive man appearing to have lost a significant amount of blood,” Const. Jesse O’Donaghey says in a media release.

A 26-year-old Kelowna man was rushed to hospital in critical condition, but succumbed to his injuries.

RCMP say they arrested a suspect a short distance away from the scene and a 26-year-old, who is known to police, remains in custody.

“The investigation is in its early stages, however the RCMP have believe that the suspect and the victim were known to each other,” O’Donaghey says in the release.

The Kelowna RCMP Serious Crime Unit is investigating the stabbing as a homicide.
