A Kelowna athlete wants to earn the title of fittest man on earth.

Brent Fikowski, who has been training in CrossFit for nearly 10 years, earned third place in the 2021 CrossFit Games, which took place July 27 to Aug. 1 in Madison, Wisconsin.

Every year, thousands of athletes compete in challenges ranging from swimming, obstacle courses, deadlifts and more.

“Happy with my execution all weekend. Laser focused, intense, but still relaxed. Really couldn’t ask for a better competition experience,” Fikowski posted on his Facebook page.

The 30-year-old has previously competed at the CrossFit Games five times finishing fourth, second, fourth, 23rd and 15th.

In 2019, Fikowski also finished first at the Dubai CrossFit Championship, with 949 points.

“Physically I’m not quite there yet, mentally I was ready, and I’m close… I was seeing improvement on the leaderboard in areas that I was struggling with years and years and years and this year I felt like I started to unlock with my coaching team some new skills and new abilities and start to apply them this year and I was feeling optimistic,” Fikowski said, in a YouTube video, reflecting on the event.

Fikowski has been featured in the CrossFit Netflix documentaries Fittest on Earth: A Decade of Fitness, and The Redeemed and the Dominant: Fittest on Earth and has even been featured in GQ Magazine.
