Kelowna man charged with second-degree murder in Sycamore Road death

The Kelowna RCMP is investigating a suspected homicide at 1210 Sycamore Road in Rutland, June 17, 2021.

A Kelowna man has now been charged in the early morning death in Rutland early yesterday morning, June 17.

Police say Dereck Donald Sears, born in 1979, has been charged with the second degree murder of Darren Middleton, born in 1971, whose body was found just before 1:30 a.m. at a residence in the 1200 block of Sycamore Road. 

Kelowna RCMP has said the incident is isolated in nature, and the victim and the suspect were known to each other.

Neighbours said the RCMP has been to the property on numerous occasions over the years and "there's been quite a bit of trouble over there at times."
