Kelowna man charged after fleeing Kootenay police in stolen vehicle

A Kelowna man has been arrested and charged in connection to a stolen vehicle in the Kootenays.

Trail and Salmo RCMP arrested a 33-year-old Kelowna man for allegedly possessing a stolen vehicle and fleeing from police in Salmo and Trail, according to the RCMP's news release.

On May 3, at 8:43 p.m. a Trail woman reported her blue 2016 BMW had been stolen from the 1700 block of 2nd Avenue, in Trail. The next day, a witness reported the blue BMW parked near the Salmo library.

An RCMP officer attempted to detain a suspect, however he allegedly fled from the area in the BMW, according to police.

Trail RCMP officers found the BMW back in the Trail area and discovered the suspect walking down the street in the Glenmerry community. They arrested the Kelowna man and took him into custody.

The man was found to be in possession of the keys to the stolen vehicle.

The B.C. Prosecution Service has charged Michael Shimaro-Campbell with: possession of stolen property over $5,000, dangerous operation of a conveyance and flight while pursued by peace officer.

Shimaro-Campbell remains in custody, according to the RCMP.
