A Kelowna furniture manufacturer has been fined $5,340 for telling a staff member not to report a serious injury they had while using a table saw.

According to a recently published WorkSafeBC penalty notice, Hyatt & Sons Manufacturing dissuaded the worker from reporting the injury.

WorkSafeBC does the public a disservice by not saying what precisely took place or when it happened.

The penalty notice just says a worker was seriously injured while using a table saw.

"WorkSafeBC determined the firm told the worker they should not report the injury," the penalty notice says. "The worker did not report the injury until about four years after it occurred."

In handing out the $5,339 fine, WorkSafeBC says the company dissuaded its employee from reporting an injury to the provincial agency.

No other details are given in the penalty notice.
