Kelowna courthouse evacuated after threat

FILE PHOTO - Kelowna Law Courts

Sheriffs and police cleared out the Kelowna courthouse after a threat forced people to evacuate the building this morning.

The threat came by phone to the Kelowna RCMP detachment around 9:30 a.m. today, July 5, and it was directed at the courthouse, detachment spokesperson Const. Michael Della-Paolera told iNFOnews.ca.

"We went to the courthouse and with the sheriffs cleared the courts and put it in lockdown," Const. Della-Paolera said.

He wouldn't specify what kind of threat was made or whether it was an explosive but he did say it was "directed toward the building."

People have been given the all clear to go back inside the courthouse, he said, and now investigators are focussing on finding the source of the threat.
