Kelowna couple scared off by late night mop-wielding man

KELOWNA - It's possible a mop might look like a hatchet late at night.

Someone recently posted on a local Facebook page that an unidentified man swung a hatchet at her and her boyfriend on Highway 97 in Kelowna near Mills Road on May 25. She said they watched where the man went afterwards and called the police.

Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey confirmed the Kelowna RCMP received a report of a man swinging a hatchet and entering a property on the 2600 block of Highway 97 on May 25 at 8:17 p.m. He was described as a Caucasian male in his 20s who appeared to be talking to himself.

Police arrived at the scene and spoke with members of the public, who didn't see the suspicious man or hear any disturbances.

Officers checked nearby security footage and spotted an unidentified man walking in the area, but instead of carrying a hatchet, he was wielding what appeared to be a mop.

Anyone with information on a mop or hatchet carrying man can contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.
