Okanagan College has received a million dollar donation from the co-founder of Big White Ski Resort and former MLA Cliff Serwa and his wife Lois.
The Serwas have donated $1 million to build a recreation and wellness centre for the Kelowna campus, according to an Okanagan College press release issued today, Feb. 8. The donation comes in the form of $500,000 that will be matched by the public’s donations up to an additional $500,000.
“The Recreation and Wellness Centre is going to make an incredible difference for students, and these students are our future,” Cliff Serwa said in the release. “With community donations and support we are one step closer to seeing this centre open for students and our community.”

Okanagan College doesn't currently have a recreation centre, leaving its sports teams without a home venue or a dedicated space to practice.
“This is an extremely generous offer by the Serwas,” Okanagan College Foundation executive director Helen Jackman said in the release. “We all need people in our corner, and this is an opportunity for the community to support a space that will foster student belonging and wellbeing."
The donation will allow the college to begin building the centre this year.
“Having a place for students to connect with each other while burning off stress through sport and physical activity is so important,” Lois Serwa said in the release. “This centre will positively impact the wellbeing of thousands of students.”
