KELOWNA - Developers have until early September to put together bids to lease part of the old RCMP site on Doyle Avenue in downtown Kelowna.
The City of Kelowna has a long-term plan for the redevelopment of the 2.72-acre site. It calls for an expansion to the Kelowna Community Theatre, an extension of the Art Walk and 0.87 acres of that land is to be developed for housing, commercial space and a 6,000 square foot “community amenity space.”
The land is valued at $6.5 million, according to a City of Kelowna news release.
In order to win the right to develop the site, the successful bidder will have to prepay a lease of 80 or more years, provide at least 10 storeys of housing, build the Artwalk and amenity space. Work on the project needs to begin within two years.
City staff will review the applications in early September then make recommendations to city council.
