Kelowna-area cases of COVID-19 grew over B.C. Day long weekend

August 04, 2020 - 4:43 PM

The number of cases linked to parties around Canada Day in Kelowna last month grew by 12 since Friday.

Figures released by Interior Health say there are now 149 positive test results in the Interior Health region from those events as of today, Aug. 4. That’s up from 137 on Friday and brings the region's total of all cases to 377.

Over the same time period, the total number of cases in the Interior Health regional only grew by nine, with six of those from Sunday to Monday, two the day before and one before that. No new cases were reported between Monday and today.

The difference between the number of new cases in the region and those associated with the Kelowna events is that there can be a time lag in determining which cases were connected to Kelowna.

The events in question were a number of parties between June 25 and July 6 that have also led to about 1,000 people throughout the province self-isolating because of the widespread contact, often between strangers.
